Things I miss about Raleigh:
-The public Library. Admittedly, I haven’t been to the library’s main branch in Greensboro, but the branch nearest to my apt. has a total of I think maybe 12 books. And the website is not nearly as informative as Raleigh’s. And Raleigh’s libraries provide you not only with a library card, but also a miniature library card to fit on your keychain (seriously, you don’t know how handy that is until you have one!). Greensboro does no such thing.
- The $1.50 movie theatre. I only went there twice in Raleigh, but it’s just a huge happiness to know that such a thing is nearby. If there is such a place in Greensboro, no one has informed me of it yet. So sad.
- The 3 minute drive to Walmart. I was so, so close to Walmart in Raleigh. It’s probably better that it’s like a 15 minute drive in Greensboro, I guess that means I won’t go there as often?
- TV nights with Amy P. Most of my nights in Greensboro are tv nights for me, but participating in mindless tv watching with Amy and Nelson the dog just can’t be beaten.
- Third floor apartment. Although it’s much easier to move into a first floor apartment, I can’t even begin to describe the creepiness of three separate occasions when men walked right up to my window and stood there looking at me.
Things I love about Greensboro:
- Living by myself. Not that I have not enjoyed my roommate experiences (they have all worked out great), but for some reason I just really love living alone! So far so good :)
- The Farmer’s Market. Minus the fact that being there sends me to the doctor (see previous post), I think it will be a great resource and a fun place to go on Saturday mornings!
- Spending time with new friends. I have had a great time getting to know some people. From games nights and dinners out to shopping and walks in the park, it's been great.
- The Parks. There were lots of parks in Raleigh, but I only went to two of them because I wasn’t sure if it’s an okay thing for a girl to go to a park alone. (is it? Who knows.) Of course it’s the same situation in Greensboro, but I’m on my way to making friends that already know all the parks and are glad to go with me and show me around :)
- Having Chick-fil-A 2 minutes from my apartment. I’ve only been there once (I don’t want to get too addicted!), but just the comfort of having one so close by warms my heart….

Does doing this mean I think to highly of myself?
So let’s great straight to the point: If I invited you to read my blog, chances are you know me and already have a good grasp of my dorkiness. So I’m not going to put too much effort into hiding it in my blog entries. I’ve thought about starting a blog off and on since around April 2007. But around that time it seemed like everyone and their mom were starting blogs, and I hated the idea of being thought a copy cat! (And the expression of moms starting blogs is not a complete exaggeration…I, in fact, know several ladies who could be my mom that are blogging about knitting and children and laundry and other things I don’t really pay attention to).
But here I am, mostly for my own sake. There are a few dear people that I do want to stay in touch with (and hopefully will), but even sporadic phone calls, emails, and facebook messages don’t give people a picture of my day to day life. And if you aren’t really interested in my day to day life, that is okay (just don’t tell me that you don’t care, because then I might be a little sad). And if you’re hoping that this blog is going to be a place for my deep dark musings, my extremely valuable insights into life’s little lessons, or my sermonizing or explaining spiritual significance behind my circumstances, then I must let you down gently and tell you that most likely none of those will occur. I want this to be a mostly fun place where I can enjoy telling random stories about life in Greensboro. Such as yesterday:
My new wonderful friend Lisa and I decided to get up early, go for a walk in the park, and then head over to the Farmer’s Market that’s open every Saturday to buy some healthy produce. Lisa also invited her friend Suzanne who I met for the first time that morning. We had a great walk in the park before it got too hot out, stopped at a few yard sales (I’m looking for a kitchen table), and headed to the Farmer’s Market. After we had been there a little while I felt like I was about to pass out. I sat down, and then I ran to the bathroom and threw up. We walked around a little bit more (and I bought some blueberries), and then I felt dizzy and faint again (doesn’t that make me sound like such a wimp?!?). I sat down outside, and sadly cut Lisa and Suzanne’s time at the Farmer’s Market short. (sorry guys!) Lisa got the car and we were going to drive home. I wasn’t feeling very good and then starting breathing really fast and my hands, feet, and lips went numb (a very odd feeling). Lisa and Suzanne decided we should go to Urgent Care, so we did. Let’s just say that Lisa, Suzanne, and I became very quickly acquainted. :-P Seriously…I don’t know if anyone expects to spend two hours at the doctor with someone they just met! But Suzanne was awesome and filled out all my paperwork (while I laid on the table and cried a little bit), and Lisa was a good comforter and rubbed my back! All my blood, pee, and EKG tests came back normal….so basically it was just a freak occurrence possibly due to blood sugar, blood pressure, or stress…no one really knows haha. I’m just sorry Lisa and Suzanne had to spend 2 hours at the doctor with me only to find out nothing was wrong! Thanks guys!
